Luxury vinyl tiles and traditional vinyl flooring a great options for kitchens and bathrooms. While the two products have some similarities, there are a number of distinct differences that give LVT the edge over standard alternatives.
Both products are, of course, made from vinyl. They also contain four layers of material and are manufactured to create the appearance of other flooring materials, like hardwood or ceramic tile, without the hefty price tag.
What Makes LVT So Luxurious?
So, what sets LVT products apart?
Thickness
LVT is about five times as thick as traditional vinyl, even though they have the same number of layers.
Durability
Because LVT is so much thicker than your typical vinyl product, you can expect it to last longer. The wear and film layers on LVT are also stronger, so they are harder to scuff, scratch or tear.
Appearance
LVT materials have a more authentic appearance and texture, which is mostly due to thickness. Sold generally as tiles or planks, LVT goes through an embossing process, so it really mimics a natural wood or stone flooring product.
